Erdil Looney

Erdil Loony has a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University/ Medical College of Virginia. In 1997, he accepted a position with Red Onion Sate Prison (ROSP), a super max facility. He implemented the American Correctional Association files for the medical department at ROSP. This setting provided him with an eye opening experience in working with offenders. He quickly recognized the need for case management services for this population. prompting him to start case management services. Later he transferred to Wallen’s Ridge State Prison (WRSP), Big Stone Gap, VA. While in that setting he improved services to that population thru a holistic individualized approach introducing mentoring to the population. In January 2001 he accepted the Director of Nursing position at Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women with the goal of improving services to the female population. He identified specific needs for this population, such as, child care, family services, domestic violence issues, in addition to the need of the male population. In 2003 he accepted a position with the Pikeville Methodist Hospital opening a much needed detox unit. In May, 2005 he accepted a consultation position with WestCare Kentucky.

In June 1, 2005 he accepted the position of Area Director for WestCare Kentucky. They opened the Hal Rogers Appalachian Recovery Center, a state licensed Alcohol and Other Drug Entity. In 2008 the facility became CARF accredited and currently has eighty-eight beds serving adult males. The facility has diversified payers sustaining the facility while serving our community. Two of those contracts, Kentucky Department of Corrections Half Way House (45 beds) and the U.S. District Court (3 beds) serve ex-offenders with substance abuse (SA) issues. Counselors and Case Managers assess the individual and develop a person centered treatment plan that is up dated monthly with input from the client. The treatment plan addresses the client’s holistic needs from SA issues, adult education, spirituality, anger management, DUI  services, job readiness, and mentoring thru fellowship in Alcoholics Anonymous (12 step) setting. The clients are monitored 6 months from admission into the program.

This position has enabled me to serve a population who is underserved starting a residential program, a jail recovery program in the Pike County Detention Center and the Floyd County Detention Center. And a homeless shelter/ community involvement center, currently licensed outpatient program in Pike County embracing and embodying the mission, vision, guiding principles, clinical vision and goals of WestCare KY.
